Join us at the Library for a gourd program led by Rona Thornton.
Gourds are a fun and different art medium. We will stick to basics for this class and create a piece with a Fall or Christmas theme. You will choose a gourd, have access to paints and supplies, and guidance to elevate your creativeness. While working, you’ll learn about the global history of gourds, growing gourds in your garden, other decorative finishes, and even a show and tell of Rona Thornton’s personal collection. Please join us to experience the joy of working with gourds.
Rona Thornton is retired and has lived at Lake Travis for over 30 years. She started working with gourds in 1996 and has been a member, director, and Treasurer of the Texas Gourd Society and Capital of Texas Gourd Patch for over 20 years. She enjoys facilitating educational programs at Central Texas schools, libraries, senior centers, and the annual Lone Star Gourd Festival. She’s always excited to introduce and share the limitless possibilities of gourd art to both adults and children.
