Dripping Springs Community Library

Under general supervision of the Assistant Library Director, the full-time Circulation Manager oversees and manages the circulation department, including training and supervising circulation staff, ensuring efficient operations, and providing excellent customer service related to library materials.

Essential Functions

  • Manage Circulation Staff
    • Supervise and assign daily tasks for circulation staff
    • Train and supervise circulation staff; monitor staff performance objectives
    • Oversee circulation desk schedule and ensure adequate coverage
    • Prepare and implement professional development for circulation desk policies, procedures, and library ILS software; provide professional development opportunities for circulation staff
    • Develop and provide information about circulation services, policies and procedures to patrons and staff
    • Work with patrons who have lost or damaged materials to collect fines or fees
    • Communicate with Library Director and Assistant Library Director on all issues
    • Work with acquisitions staff on materials requests
    • Order supplies associated with circulation including TexShare cards, Voter Registration, and tax forms
    • Ensure processes, procedures, and equipment are current and develop strategies to meet the needs of the public
    • Stay current on changing trends in circulation services through professional literature and/or workshops
    • Recruit, communicate, train, and supervise shelving volunteers
    • Assist staff and patrons in use of public access catalog and electronic resources
    • Manage all ILL requests
    • Provide backup on Circulation Desk and phone
    • Provide monthly statistics as assigned by the Assistant Director or Director
    • Oversee repair and maintenance of physical collection materials
    • Other duties as assigned

Must be available to work Saturdays. Occasional earlier and/or later hours may be required.
To accommodate the library’s needs during hours of operation and/or assist with covering staff shortages as needed, the work schedule may vary weekly, daily, or hourly.

Minimum Requirements

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Library circulation desk experience
  3. Experience with management or leadership of a team
  4. Experience with library ILS software systems
  5. Valid driver’s license at time of employment and throughout employment.
  6. Personally insured vehicle for use on the job at employment and throughout employment; Library provides mileage reimbursement

  • Knowledge of integrated library systems and equipment, and circulation procedures and methods
  • Knowledge of administrative principles; personnel practices and procedures; and supervisory principles, workforce planning, and recordkeeping
  • Knowledge of books, electronic databases, internet resources, bibliographies, and reference materials
  • Knowledge of technologies and practices used within a public library
  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing tasks
  • Skill in using computers and related software, including Microsoft Suite
  • Skill in facilitating discussions and resolving issues
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct, and coordinate operational duties
  • Ability to speak effectively with patrons and staff
  • Ability to provide high-level customer service
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to respect the privacy of individual users
  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion when dealing with issues involving several variables
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures
